Sun and Moon absolutely refuse to do this, however. They give great flair and are used excellently in many of the tracks, but they make it hard to distinguish individual route themes or town themes or similar. Think Ruby and Sapphire’s oft-joked about trumpets. This would result in every soundtrack kind of coalescing into each other, into some amorphous music blob that I always liked but never really got passionate about. The problem would often be in how those songs just… never did enough to differentiate themselves from each other, always using the same sorts of instruments, leitmoths, and tones.
Previous Pokemon games had plenty of excellent individual tracks, songs I would describe as, in my expert opinion, “absolute bangers”. Rare is the Pokemon game that’ll get me fired up about a part of it, and yet, Sun and Moon did the unthinkable: they made me really get into the soundtrack.īut before we go into this game specifically, why Sun and Moon specifically? Well, they’re the first Pokemon games, at least for me, to really hit their stride in making the entire OST unique, memorable, and distinctive. I play each of the games when I’m in the mood for one, and always have a pretty good time adventuring through the land with my party. Pokemon is not usually a series I talk about much – it’s not a thing I get super passionate about.
